Iron Banner is back!

And it’s Rift….  Ugh.  Why?  Please, no…  Well, at least I’ve got an active clan to drag me through this.  Rift is not one of my favorite game modes.  I generally just don’t like it, but I’ll make it through.  Somehow…

Okay, so Iron Banner start tomorrow, December 6th, 2016, sometime during the day.  The game mode is Rift (yaaaaaay….).  I believe everyone is mostly familiar with the mode, so I won’t go into details.  Get the spark.  Slam the opponents Rift with the spark.  Don’t let the opposing team do the same to you.  Easy enough, right?

I can admit that playing Rift with a fireteam full of friends definitely helps matters.  Running Solo is just no fun for this particular game mode.

Well, shoot.  I should make this look like the last Iron Banner post that I did…

Game Mode:  Rift

The basics were detailed above about the Spark and the Rifts and what you should do with them.  The spark will spawn in a central location and everyone generally fights over it.  It takes a little while to actually spawn in, but once it does, grab it, get with your teammates as best as possible for protection, and go to the enemy rift.  I’ll let you decide on the route that you want to take.  It varies from map to map.

If the other team grabs the rift, then kill the runner as fast as possible.  If you don’t, fall back to choke points that head towards your rift and guard them with your life.  Slamming the Rift is worth a lot of points, so you don’t want to give that up.

Available Bounties:

I’m guessing that the bounties aren’t going to change since they’re very general in nature.

  • Earn 100 Points in Iron Banner (Match Complete = 5, Match win = 10)
    • Rewards:  5000 xp, 25 Legendary Marks, 750 Iron Banner Reputation, Legendary IB Weapon
  • Earn 100 Points with Ability Kills (Grenade = 2, Melee = 3, Super = 5)
    • Rewards:  5000 xp, 25 Legendary Marks, 750 Iron Banner Reputation, Legendary IB Gear
  • Earn 100 Points with Weapon Kills (Primary = 1, Special = 2, Heavy = 3)
    • Rewards:  5000 xp, 25 Legendary Marks, 750 Iron Banner Reputation, Legendary IB Weapon
  • Earn 100 Points Supporting your teammates (Assisted Kills = 1, Avenger Kills = 3, Allies Defended = 5)
    • Rewards:  5000 xp, 25 Legendary Marks, 750 Iron Banner Reputation, Legendary IB Gear

So, what can Iron Banner give me?

Great stuff!

No, really, it certainly can give you some pretty decent weaponry.  This week, the scout rifle, fusion rifle, helmet, and class item are available as end match rewards.  The Scout Rifle is, honestly, very nice.

Recommended Rolls (Perks to look out for)

The Distant Star – PvE

  • Perfect Balance
  • High Caliber Rounds or Full Auto
  • Firefly or Triple Tap

The Distance Star – PvP

  • Perfect Balance
  • High Caliber Rounds
  • Zen Moment or Hidden Hand

The Branded Lord

  • Linear Compensator
  • Braced Frame
  • Rangefinder

I personally see the fusion rifle as infusion fodder whenever you get it.  The scout rifle, though, I do like.  Especially in PvE.  It’s the fast rate of fire class, so you get to shoot fast. Yay shooting fast!  You get a low magazine, however, and depending on the perk, that can get even lower.

Keep in mind that these rewards will be the same or higher than your current light level at the end of the match!  Also, the rewards from the bounties will be from the Iron Banner loot pool without the current drops being available in it.  If you wait until Iron Banner is over, them the entire loot pool will be utilized.

I find that I don’t really have much to say about IB this time around.  I’m way more excited about The Dawning and SRL coming back next week!
